SIR and SIR Foundation believe in promoting a culture of inclusion and strengthening the specialty of interventional radiology through different perspectives.
The Reviewer-in-Training (RIT) Program is designed to train and mentor individuals to review grant proposals and learn the grant review process to be able to participate in various study sections ranging from society, foundation and government agencies (such as the National Institutes of Health).
Up to four applicants per year (two for each tier) who have previously received a SIR Foundation grant will be selected for this opportunity. They are expected to commit to reviewing for two consecutive SIR Foundation Grant Review Study Sections and attend the Annual Meeting Study Section.

Tiers
Tier 1: Faculty MD or PhD
- Year 1: Assigned two proposals to review and score during the pre-review stage of the grant cycle. You will be paired with a mentor to review these proposals and then be asked to submit a final evaluation at the Grant Review Study Section.
- Year 2: Assigned probationary reviewer status by study section chair and assigned two proposals to review. A potential invitation to join the Grant Review Study Section will be considered after completion.
Tier 2: Medical students, residents and other trainees
- Year 1: Invited to observe the Grant Review Study Section.
- Year 2: Assigned one pilot grant proposal to review and will be paired with a mentor for further evaluation.
Eligibility
Applicants should have previously received an SIR Foundation grant.
How to apply
Applications open on July 1, 2024, and final applications are due Sept. 1, 2024, by 5 p.m. ET. This deadline remains whether or not the date falls on a weekend and/or holiday. Applications that are not complete or do not comply with the guidelines will be considered ineligible.
