Women in IR (WIR)
The Women in IR (WIR) section promotes women within the specialty by inspiring and empowering them to achieve their personal and professional goals and serve as a resource to SIR and SIR Foundation leadership.
Supporting women in interventional radiology
This section is open to interventional radiologists who have a special interest in contributing toward the objectives of the section, including:
- To provide a forum for women in interventional radiology to meet, interact and network.
- To increase the number of women within SIR leadership by providing a pathway for professional leadership development within the organization.
- To provide a forum that supports women in interventional radiology and encourages the open exchange of information which will help individuals further their careers.
- To develop and present educational programs on a diverse range of topics relating to interventional radiology, career opportunities, career longevity and economic concerns.
- To prepare and distribute information to the society that is interesting, educational and relevant.
Women in IR Championship Award
2025 Award recipient
The 2025 Women in IR Champion Award recipient is Maureen P. Kohi, MD, FSIR. Dr. Kohi will be honored at the Women in IR InspIRed Lecture and Luncheon at the SIR 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting on Monday, March 31 at noon.
About the award
Launched at the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting, the Women in IR Champion Award is presented annually to recognize an individual who has consistently made a significant contribution to the advancement of women in IR, such as in sponsorship, mentorship, teaching, promotion, advocacy and recruitment. The nominee must be a long-term member of SIR.
