Build your career within IR
The Early Career Section (ECS) is composed of interventional radiologists in their first 8 years of practice. However, membership is open to all individuals interested in supporting the mission and objective of the section. ECS provides a platform for SIR members who are new to the practice of interventional radiology and want to develop a knowledge base, network, and participate in the decision-making at SIR.
The purpose of the section is to provide:
- An opportunity for physicians new to the practice of IR to exchange ideas and learn how to advance in their career.
- Collegiality and cooperation with your fellow physicians new to the specialty.

The Early Career Section has been a fantastic experience for me. It has provided tangible benefits, such as access to great webinars and talks at various meetings, however perhaps more important is the interaction with other IRs. Early Career Section provides a great platform for networking with other early career IRs and an opportunity to meet and make friends across the country. It has also provided me with great insight into the way the SIR at large functions, and helped me meet numerous more established IRs. I strongly encourage any early career IR to join the ECS, and experience these benefits first hand.

Volunteering for the Early Career Section has been an incredibly enriching experience; I recommend every new IRs to get involved. For starters, ECS has given me access to a network of peers and a library of educational content that helped my transition to attending-hood, as well as innumerable opportunities to get involved with SIR, ABR, and other programs. I also really appreciate that it is a great platform to make a difference in our community - we are constantly envisioning ways to fulfill the unmet needs of early career IRs and carrying out new projects. ECS has something for everyone. We have numerous workgroups ranging from ones dedicated to improving online content to ones that facilitate peer networking and professional development. It's a community strengthened by its members – so let's build it together.
